SE Falls in Midweek Matchup at SWOSU

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southeastern's offense never found traction as it stranded nine runners en route to a 7-1 midweek road loss versus Southwestern Oklahoma State on Tuesday afternoon in Weatherford, Okla.
 
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 10-20 overall as they prepare to jump back into Great American conference play with a key weekend series against Oklahoma Baptist beginning March 28 with a single game at 6 p.m. in Shawnee, Okla., with he final two games slated for a Saturday afternoon twinbill starting at 1 p.m. back in Shawnee/
 
Wesley Mitchell posted a pair of hits to lead the Storm, while Coby Grimsley, Jake Miller, Alex Showalter, and Austin Thorp each picked up one hit.
 
Thorp recorded the team's lone RBI.
 
Carson Abbott got the start and tossed two innings, allowing three runs on four hits while taking the loss.
 
Ausitn Hillebrandt followed and went 2.2 innings, also allowing three runs on four hits.
 
Luke Johnson, Parker Pecina, Brayden Phelps, Ryan Faquharson, and Tanner Carter combined to throw the final 3.1 innings, allowing a collective one run on two hits with two strikeouts.
 
SWOSU struck first with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning and added two more runs on a two-run homer in the second, taking a 3-0 lead into the third inning.
 
SE found its way home safely in the top of the fifth as Showalter tripled to lead off the inning and scored on a sacrifice fly from Thorp to close the gap to 3-1.
 
That score did not stick for long as the Bulldogs connected on a three-run single in the bottom half of the inning, taking a 6-1 lead after five complete.
 
SWOSU tacked on a run in the eighth, taking advantage of a Storm error to push its lead to 7-1 heading to the ninth and it would hold up as the final.
