DENISON, Texas – Southeastern Oklahoma State splits its Saturday doubleheader with Ouachita Baptist, winning game one 7-3.
Sage Harlow led the team at the plate with four hits across the two games, as the team totaled 11 knocks. Harlow was one of two players with a home run on the day, with
India McMurray recording one and finishing with two hits and four RBIs.
Trinity Oden got the win in game one with 6.0 innings of work and six strikeouts.
Southeastern (26-25, 17-15 GAC) returns to Grayson Community College tomorrow at 2 p.m. to close out the series with Ouachita Baptist and will honor five seniors ahead of the first pitch.
GAME ONE: SE 7, OUA 3
Game one between Southeastern and Ouachita Baptist opened with a scoreless first frame, but the two sides would trade a run in the second, tied at 1-1. The Storm used three singles to plate their first run after a hit by
Kennedy Morgan was ripped through the right side to score McMurray.
Southeastern added to its lead two innings later in the bottom half of the fourth with a solo home run by McMurray, giving the blue and gold its first lead of the game, 2-1. However, the Tigers were swift to reply, scoring two runs in the top of the fifth to go back in front. Like Ouachita, the Storm had an answer in the bottom half of that frame, exploding for four runs to regain the advantage 6-3.
The blue and gold loaded the bases with one out, and a walk worked by
Laci Larsen brought in the tying run. On the next at-bat, McMurray hit a bases-clearing double off the center field wall to score three more runs. Southeastern added one more run in the sixth on an RBI double by
Iliana Olivares to cap off a 7-3 win.
GAME TWO: OUA 5, SE 2
Southeastern was first on the board in game two, as Harlow lifted a big fly over the left-center field wall in the bottom half of the first. The Tigers matched the Storm in the second with a solo homer of their own and later in the fourth added three more runs on three hits to take a 4-1 lead.
The blue and gold looked to scratch their next run in the fifth with the bases loaded, but the breakthrough hit would not come, as it remained a three-run contest. The Tigers and Storm traded solo runs again in the sixth with Ouachita holding a 5-2 advantage after an RBI sacrifice fly by
Susan Edwards.
In the bottom of the seventh, SE had a runner in scoring position at second with one out following a double from Sands. However, the Tigers were able to work around the traffic to hold off a late rally from the Storm to win the second game.
