EDMOND, Okla. – After falling behind 3-1 in the match, Southeastern rallied to defeat Newman 4-3 with four wins in the singles round to earn its first conference win of the season.
The Savage Storm fell behind in the match 1-0, as Newman secured the doubles points with wins at the No. 2 and 3 lines. SE's duo of
Jose Pinto and
German Vallejo were able to secure a win at court one, winning 6-0.
SE quickly tied the match 1-all, as
Luis Ching delivered a 6-5 and 7-5 win at No. 1, but two wins for NU at courts two and three in quick succession put the Jets back ahead 3-1.
Djordje Kurcubic pulled a point back for the blue and gold at the No. 6 line after falling behind in set one and then winning sets two and three 6-3 to get the win. From there, the Storm tied the match 3-3 with a win at No. 5 by Vallejo in three sets, and
Benjamin Fracassi completed the rally with a three-set victory from court four, winning 3-6, 7-6 and 6-4, to help capture the victory for SE.
Southeastern (9-3 1-1) returns home on Friday, Apr. 11, to host Seward County from the Southeastern Tennis Complex at noon.
