DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern battled Oklahoma Baptist in its GAC opener in Bloomer Sullivan Gym on Tuesday evening, and the Bison would defeat the Savage Storm 3-0.Â

Gabby Jones led the Storm attack with ten kills, while
Alexis Williams and
Noelia Rocha each chipped in eight and six, respectively. Williams was a force at the net, recording 6.0 total blocks, and
Laura Weatherford added to the defensive efforts with a team-high 16 digs.
Jasmin Dion notched a double-double with 29 assists and 15 digs.

SE (3-6, 0-1) resumes non-conference action next time out, when they head to Jackson, Tenn., on Saturday, Sept. 20, to take on Bethel and Lane College. The Savage Storm will face Bethel at 1 p.m. before battling Lane at 3 p.m.

SET ONE
Little separated the two sides early, as Southeastern led 10-7 after a kill by Jones, but the Bison began to heat up, stringing together a 3-0 run and later 4-0 burst to jump ahead 17-15. Kills by
Maci Morrison and Rocha tied the set again, and the Storm eventually regained the lead on a 3-0 run capped off by a Jones kill, 21-19. However, late momentum for the Bison saw the visitors build a 6-1 flurry to close out the set 25-22.

SET TWO
Oklahoma Baptist carried the first lead of set two, and the two sides would trade blows with the score locked at 8-8 and 9-9. From there, the Bison began to take control with a flurry of points to grab the lead again, 16-11, but the Storm had an answer and closed the gap to two, 17-15, on a quick 3-0 run. Like the first set, Oklahoma Baptist used a late run of scores to secure the second frame 25-16.

SET THREE
OBU struck first, but it was all Southeastern from there with the blue and gold going ahead 5-1 behind three straight kills by Jones. The Storm continued to stay ahead, stringing together a pair of quick 2-0 bursts to stretch the gap to 14-8. The Bison soon found their footing in the set and quickly went to work, as a 10-1 flipped the momentum to the visitors, who went ahead 20-17. SE had an answer with a three straight points to tie the set 20-20, though a late run of points for the visitors secured a 25-21 set win for OBU.
