EDMOND, Okla. –
Carter Olson collected three hits and drove in three runs to power Southeastern to a 12-7 win over Emporia State on Saturday afternoon in Edmond, Okla.
The win evens the record at 2-2 heading into a rematch with No. 16 Pittsburg State at 10 a.m. on Sunday back in Edmond, Okla.
Olson finished the day 3-for-4 with three RBI, while
Isaac Villa and
Jax Heid each tallied two hits.
Ryan Kirk,
JJ Bush,
Austin Parker,
Jacob Ambriz,
Payton Poole, and
Alex Showalter each logged a hit.
Poole posted a homer, while Villa, Bush, Olson, Parker, and Ambriz each doubled.
Bush drove in a pair of runs, with Kirk, Ampriz, Poole, and Heid each plated one.
Zach Andrews got the start and tossed 2.1 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts in a no decision.
Estevan Fonseca followed and picked up hits second win of the season, allowing three runs on three hits in 2.2 innings.
Chase Wernimont scattered two hits in an inning before
Brock Zimmer stepped in to toss 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit before
Carson Abbott came on to record the final out.
SE opened scoring in the top pf the second inning, with Ambriz doubling home Parker and eventually scoring himself on a Heid RBI single to take a 2-0 lead.
The Hornets answered and knotted the game at 2-2 on a pair of RBI doubles.
Olson singled home Villa in the top of the third to regain the lead but it would not last long as ESU answered with two runs in the bottom half to take a 4-3 lead after three innings.
Poole evened the game with a solo homer in the top of the fourth, and an inning later Bush and Olson connected on back-to-back RBI doubles to push out to a 6-4 advantage.
ESU retook the lead at 7-6 in the bottom half of the fifth with a trio of runs.
The Storm struck back in the top of the sixth with the first three hitters reaching followed by an RBI single by Kirk to tie the game at 7-7.
That was followed by a Bush RBI and a sac fly from Olson to push the lead to 9-7.
Kirk scored later in the inning on a wild pitch and two more runs came on as Poole reached on an error to extend the lead to 12-7 midway through the sixth.
Wernimont, Zimmer, and Abbot combined to keep the Hornets off the board over the final three inning to preserve the 12-7 win.
