SE Baseball Tripped Up in Midweek Matchup

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Southeastern collected a pair of homers but was unable to offset a seven-run fourth inning by Northeastern State in a 16-6 midweek loss on Tuesday afternoon in Tahlequah, Okla.
 
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 13-8 overall on the year heading into a three-game home series versus Arkansas tech set for March 13-14 at Mike Metheny Field.
 
JJ Bush and Alex Showalter each collected a pair of hits, with each homering, while Carter Olson and Ryan Kirk each picked up a hit.
 
Bush drove in two runs, while Kirk, Hayden Carpenter, and Showalter each had an RBI.
 
Six pitchers worked over seven innings for the Storm, with Chase Wernimont getting the start and allowing a run in two innings of work in a no decision.
 
Ryan Rauss collected the loss after tossing an inning and allowing four runs, just one of them earned.
 
Bush put the Stork on the board in the top of the first inning with a solo homer, but NSU evened the game at 1-1 with an RBI single in the bottom half.
 
The RiveHawks went on to add four runs in the third inning, three of them unearned, opening a 5-1 lead.
 
NSU followed with a seven-run fourth inning and SE trailed 12-1 through four innings.
 
Showalter added a solo homer in the top of the fifth which was followed by RBI doubles from Bush and Kirk to cut into the deficit to 14-4.
 
However, the RiverHawks followed with a three-run homer and an RBI single in the bottom half of the inning to push their lead to 16-4
 
In the top of the seventh Tyler Payton scored on a wild pitch and Carpenter drove in a run to get the Storm to 16-6, but were unable to bring home another run to extend the contest, leaving the final 16-6 in seven innings.
