Storm Baseball Splits Twinbill Versus UAM

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern stacked up six home runs across two games and got off to hot starts in both games but would settle for a day one split against Arkansas-Monticello on Friday afternoon, taking game one 10-7 before falling in the nightcap 6-5.
 
The rubber match in the series is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon back at Mike Metheny Field.
 
In game one, Ryan Kirk and Carter Olson each logged a pair of hits, with Olson homering twice and Kirk adding one and a double.
 
Ausitn Parker added a home run while Isaac Villa doubled, while JJ Bush, Jax Heid, and Tyler Payton each added a hit.
 
Olson and Kirk finished the game with three RBI, with Villa driving in two, while Bush and Parker had one apiece.
 
Dylan Hill picked up the win after scattering five runs, four earned, on eight hits with eight strikeouts.
 
Estevan Fonseca tossed 3.1 innings in relief, allowing two runs on three hits with three strikeouts to pick up his first save of the season.
 
Southeastern sent 12 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first inning, with Kirk driving in Villa from first on an RBI double down the left field line.
 
Kirk then scored on a Bush RBI single up the middle and a batter later Olson hammered a two-run homer to right-center for a 4-0 lead.
 
Parker followed with a solo shot to pish the lead to 5-0.
 
Villa made a second plate appearance in the inning, doubling home two runs followed by a Kirk homer to left to plate two more runs and take a 9-0 lead after one inning.
 
Olson connected on his second homer of the game in the bottom of the second inning, pushing the lead to 10-0.
 
The Boll Weevils took advantage of an SE error in the top of the third and brought a run in to make the score 10-1 midway through the inning.
 
UAM picked up four runs in the top of the sixth inning, trimming the Storm lead to 10-5 midway through that inning.
 
The Weevils tacked on two more runs in the top of the ninth, but the Storm ended the threat and held on for a 10-7 win.
 
In the nightcap, Villa, Bush, Payton Poole, and Heid each had a pair of hits, while Olson and Jacob Ambriz had one each.
 
Ambriz and Poole each homered while Villa added a triple.
 
Ambriz and Poole finished the game with two RBI apiece and ush drove in one.
 
Jacob Fuller got the start and took a no decision after tossing four innings and allowing a run on four hits with four strikeouts.
 
Brock Zimmer followed, allowing a run on a hit before handing to Cody Pfeffer who was tagged for three runs on two hits in one-third of an inning.
 
He gave way to Marcus Mott who took the loss after allowing an unearned run on two hits in 1.2 innings.
 
Bush drove in the first run of the game in the bottom of the first, plating Villa on an RBI single to right.
 
Two batters later Ambriz connected on a two-run homer and Poole followed with a back-to-back solo hot, extending the lead to 4-0 after one inning.
 
UAM picked up a run on a solo homer in the top of the fourth, cutting the Storm lead to 4-1.
 
The Weevils added another solo homer in the top of the fifth to cut the Storm lead to 4-2, but Pole tacked on a run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single to score Villa for a 5-2 lead.
 
That lead was short-lived as a two-run homer in the top of the sixth inning closed the gap to 5-4, followed by a game-tying RBI groundout followed by UAM taking a 6-5 lead on an error.
 
That lead would hold up as the final score.
