DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern opened its finale home series with a doubleheader on Friday against No. 10 Southern Arkansas, and was bested in both games, falling 13-1 in game one and 5-1 in the second contest of the day.
SE (19-25, 11-15 GAC) concludes its home series against No. 10 Southern Arkansas tomorrow at noon, and will honor seniors
Iliana Olivares and
Bailey Kite before the game.
GAME ONE: SAU 13, SE 1
The Muleriders jumped on the Storm during the top of the first, scoring 11 runs to surge out in front. Free passes hurt Southeastern early, giving up six walks in the first, and it finished with eight walks allowed in the game.
Alyson Malone would come in during the top of the first and end the frame before providing two scoreless innings in the second and third.
During this stretch, the Storm bats were kept in check by the Muleriders, who limited SE to three hits – all coming in the fourth. Southeastern would plate a run during this frame, as a single by
Kasey Simmons scored
Emily Simmons, who reached on a single earlier in the fourth.
GAME TWO: SAU 5, SE 1
Similar to game one, SAU used a fast start to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but SE was quick to reply, scoring a run in the second on a solo home run by
Lorryn Johnson to pull a run back, 2-1.
However, the Mulerider bats went back to work, plating a run in the third. fifth and sixth to extend its lead to 5-1. SE was held to one hit over this stretch, with Olivares recording a single in the bottom of the sixth. The Storm would keep SAU scoreless in the top of the seventh and threaten the Muleriders, bringing the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh.
Southeastern had runners on first and second after a leadoff double by
Tally Rowland and a walk from
India McMurray.
McKenna Simmons later loaded the bases with the second walk of the frame to bring the tying run to the plate with two outs. Despite the late pressure by the Storm, SAU worked the final out to close the door on the SE rally to win 5-1.
