Storm Baseball Splits Thursday Twinbill at SWOSU

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southeastern scored in each of the final five innings of game two to pick up a 12-2 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State in the nightcap of their doubleheader and avenge a 6-5 loss in game one on Thursday afternoon in Weatherford, Okla.
 
The split moves the Savage Storm to 21-15 overall on the season an 13-10 in Great American Conference play with the rubber match of the series set for 1 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
 
In game two, Isaac Villa and Tyler Payton each logged three hits, while JJ Bush and Alex Showalter turned in a pair of hits each.
 
Ryan Kirk, Carter Olson, and Logan Rose each added a hit.
 
Kirk, Bush, and Payton each doubled, with Rose adding his first triple, and Villa connecting on a home run.
 
Villa finished with four RBI, while Olson, Showalter, and Payton drove in two each and Kirk added one.
 
Jacob Fuller go the start and collected his first win after tossing five shutout innings and allowing four hits while striking out six.
 
Marcus Mott tossed the final two innings and was tagged for two runs and three hits while striking out five.
 
Southeastern jumped in front in the third inning, first with a run coming home on a Kirk sacrifice fly before bringing home a second run on an Olson RBI single.
 
The Storm pushed home a third run in the fourth inning as Logan Rose scored on an error following a bunt single.
 
Olson drove in another run in the top of the fifth on a sac fly to stretch the Storm lead to 4-0.
 
In the sixth, Showalter pushed home a run on an RBI single and Villa connected on a three-run homer later in the inning to push the lead to 8-0.
 
Showalter drove in another run in the top of the seventh inning and two batters later Heid drew a bases-loaded walk to drive in another run and push the lead to 10-0.
 
Paytin followed with a sac fly to bring in another run before an RBI single by Villa scored Showalter and extended the lead to 12-0.
 
The Bulldogs picked up a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to break up the shutout and make the final score 12-2.
 
In the opener, JJ Bush and Rose each collected a pair of hits, while Villa, Ryan Kirk, and Olson each added a hit.
 
Villa and Olson each doubled, with Bush connecting on his 14th home run of the season.
 
Bush finished the game with three RBI, while Kirk and Rose drove in one each.
 
Daniel Collins got the start and took a no decision after allowing five runs on eight hits with three strikeouts across six innings.
 
Jua Berrios allowed a hit in one inning followed by Bryden Phelps who matched that effort.
 
Brock Zimmer came in to toss the ninth and record a pair of outs before giving up the game winning run, his first run allowed on the season across his 11 appearances.
 
SE jumped in front with an RBI single by Rose to plate Olson in the top of the second inning.
 
The Bulldogs answered by tying the score in the bottom of the third and added back-to-back RBI hits in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead.
 
A solo homer in the fifth and an RBI single in the sixth let SWOSU extend their lead to 5-1 through six innings.
 
Bush provided an answer for the Storm in the top of the eighth inning with a two-run home run, cutting the deficit to 5-3 midway through the penultimate inning.
 
The Storm completed its rally in the top of the ninth with RBI singles from Bush and Kirk to tie the game at 5-5.
 
Unfortunately, a trio of walks in the bottom half of the inning would prove costly as an RBI single scored a runner from second to give SWOSU the series-opening, 6-5, win.
