Baseball Drops Series Finale at SWOSU

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southeastern baseball closed out its three-game road series versus Southwestern Oklahoma State with a 19-9 loss on Friday afternoon in Weatherford, Okla.
 
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 21-16 overall on the season and 13-11 in Great American Conference play.
 
Ryan Kirk turned in a 3-for-3 effort at the plate with a walk, a double, and two RBI.
 
Carter Olson and Jax Heid each added two hits, with Olson doubling while Heid drove in a pair of runs.
 
Tyler Payton homered and drove in three runs, while Isaac Villa and Logan Rose each added one hit.
 
Easton Ford drove in a run and scored once.
 
Estevan Fonseca got the start and took a no decision after lasting just two-thirds of an inning, allowing six runs, two of them earned, on three hits and three walks.
 
Ryan Rauss followed and logged 2.1 innings, allowing a run on three hits with two strikeouts.
 
Austin Hillebrandt allowed a pair of runs, just one of them earned, but scattered six hits with two strikeouts in 2.2 innings.
 
Juan Berrios took the loss after surrendering five runs on three hits with two walks in two-thirds of an inning.
 
Marcus Mott followed and allowed three runs on a hit and two walks without recording an out before Brock Zimmer took over and gave up two runs on two hits in one-third of an inning.
 
The Storm fell behind early as SWOSU put up six runs in the bottom of the first inning.
 
Southeastern did not wait long to answer though, getting on the board in the top of the second, first on a Heid RBI single, followed by a Payton RBI fielder's choice.
 
Kirk then followed by driving in a pair of runs to close the deficit to 6-4.
 
The Bulldogs piked up a run in the bottom half of the second to take a 7-4 lead.
 
In the top of the third, JJ Bush would come home on a wild pitch and Ford would drive in Olson to cut the score to 7-6.
 
After a pair of scoreless innings, Southeastern would finally take the lead on Payton's two-run homer in the top of the sixth, going in front 8-7.
 
SWOSU answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half to regain the lead at 9-8.
 
Heid would knot the score in the top of the seventh with a sac fly to score Jacob Ambriz and even the game at 9-9.
 
However, the wheels would come off in the bottom half of the inning as the Bulldogs sent 16 batters to the plate, drawing five walks and taking advantage of three wild pitches and a Storm error to put up 10 runs and trigger the run rule in the seventh inning.
