Softball Sweeps Twin Bill at Ouachita to Win Series

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Southeastern closes out the regular season with a season win over Ouachita Baptist after winning games two and three to complete the weekend sweep. SE opened the doubleheader with a 3-2 win in game one and followed with a 2-1 victory in the second.

The Savage Storm (23-27, 15-17 GAC) will now turn their attention to Bentonville, Ark., where it will play in the GAC Tournament on May 7-9.

GAME ONE: SE 3, OBU 2
The Tigers led 1-0 after one inning of play, but Southeastern soon answered back in the top of the third, scoring two runs to grab a 2-1 advantage. The Storm had the bases loaded with one out in the third, and a wild pitch by the Tigers allowed Tristan Hopkins to score the first run before a fielder's choice from Iliana Olivares brought in the second.

The Storm's scoring was matched in the bottom half of the third, as Ouachita added a run to its score to tie the game 2-2. The tie would only last an inning, with Southeastern plating one run on three hits to regain the lead 3-2 in the fifth. Susan Edwards led off the frame with a single, and she would be batted around to third before a RBI single by Tally Rowland plated Edwards for her second run scored in the game.

Alyson Malone, who got the start in game one of the doubleheader, posted four-straight zeros after the third to help the Storm to a 3-2 win, and finished with four strikeouts. Malone's fourth and final strikeout was the biggest, as she struck out the final batter in the bottom of the seventh to leave the bases loaded. At the plate, T. Rowland and Laci Larsen each had two hits, and SE finished with eight as a team.

GAME TWO: SE 2, OBU 1
Southeastern struck first in the top of the second, as an RBI double by India McMurray gave the Storm a 1-0 lead, scoring T. Rowland, who began the frame with a double. SE carried its 1-0 advantage into the fourth, with starting pitcher Trinity Oden allowing just one hit during this stretch.

Ouachita would find a breakthrough against T. Oden in the bottom of the fourth to score a run and tie the game 1-1. SE replied in the following inning with a solo home run by T. Oden to push back in front 2-1. T. Oden retired the side in order during the bottom half and went on to post back-to-back zeros in the sixth and seventh to close out the game.

The Storm compiled five hits in the game, led by T. Rowland with two and a run scored, while T. Oden improved to 5-8 in the circle with a complete game pitched and six strikeouts recorded.
