Renamed for ‘The Grand Old Man of Southeastern’ after his death in 1939, Southeastern’s football stadium is home to a storied program which has won 17 conference championships including three straight Lone Star Conference North Division crowns in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
On May 11, 2004, the citizens of Durant voted overwhelmingly ‘Yes-Yes’ for a pair of quarter-cent sales taxes designed to fund both city and university sports facilities. The Durant Community Facility Authority (DCFA) was created and Southeastern Athletic Director Dr. Jeff Hale was named its chair.
The first phase of the DCFA’s mission was a $2.8 million renovation of Paul Laird Field which included installation of artificial field turf, a home-side seating expansion, and the construction of new locker and training room facilities beyond the south end zone.
On November 11, 2006, Southeastern Oklahoma State honored 98 years of championship tradition with the dedication of the Football Honors Plaza in the southeast corner of the stadium. The honors plaza celebrates our 17 conference championship teams, 24 Athletic Football Hall of Famers and each of the 18 head coaches in the history of the SOSU football program.
