Chad Speer joined the Southeastern coaching staff prior to the 2010 season and coached the offensive line exclusively before adding offensive coordinator duties to that before the 2013 season.
 
The 2017 offense featured a trio of All-GAC honorees, including tight end Codey McElroy who went on to sign with the Los Angeles Rams prior to the 2018 season. SE averaged 209.7 yards per game through the air and added 157.1 per game ont he ground.

His 2016 offense was his most productive yet, averaging 35.1 ppg which marks the highest points average since the 2004 season, while setting a record in total offense with 445.8 yards per game, breaking the record his 2013 offense set. The squad also featured a pair of 1,000 yard rushers for the first time in SE history as Ronnie Green and Devlon Wortham combined for over 2,200 yards, while Wortham used his performance to cap off a record-setting career by taking over the top spot on the career rushing yards list, with all four seasons with Speer as OC.
 
The squad had an all-region selection in Wortham as well as seven All-GAC selections.
 
The 2015 offense was fourth in the Great American Conference in scoring at 33.4 points per game and was ranked in the top half of the league in passing, rushing and total offense.
 
The offense also featured first team All-GAC selection Franky Okafor who would later sign as an undrafted free agent with the Arizona Cardinals.
 
In his second season calling plays the offense posted 4,862 total yards of offense and averaged 405.2 yards per game.
 
That offense also featured a pair of All-Great American Conference linemen in Preston Smith and Greg Lunceford, as well as All-GAC honorees Anthony Foster at wide receiver and Devlon Wortham at running back.
 
The 2014 team turned in a five-game turnaround to finish the season at 7-5 with the program’s first postseason appearance since 2004 and the first winning season since 2009.
 
The Savage Storm played in its first bowl game since the mid-90’s when it earned a berth in the Live United Texarkana Bowl in Texarkana, Texas where it played MIAA opponent Central Missouri.
 
His 2013 offense posted a school record 4,895 yards of total offense, averaging 445.0 yards per game, with 1,816 yards coming on the ground and another 3,079 through the air.
 
For the first time in school history, the offense featured a 2,000-yard passer (Nick Sioson), as well as a 1,000-yard rusher (Devlon Wortham) and a 1,000-yard receiver (Anthony Foster).
 
Devlon Wortham was named the GAC’s Freshman of the Year after his 1,149 yard performance, while he and Anthony Foster each earned All-GAC honors.
 
The 2012 line blocked for the GAC’s second-ranked rushing offense at 223.3 yards per game and helped put three SE runners in the league’s top-15 rushers list.
 
His 2010 line boasted three first team selections while blocking for LSC-N Co-Offensive Back of the Year Baylen Laury.  The team was second in the LSC in rushing offense, averaging 162.7 yards per game on the ground.
 
He comes to SOSU after 3 years as the Head Coach at Leavenworth High School in Leavenworth, KS, where he helped the Pioneers end a 19-game losing streak.
 
Prior to his arrival at Leavenworth, Speer spent the 2005 and 2006 seasons as a Graduate Assistant at Northwest Missouri State University where he tutored both the Offensive Line and Tight Ends.
 
In his two seasons, the Bearcats compiled a two-year overall record of 25-5, winning 1 MIAA Conference Championship in 2006.  They also made two trips to the NCAA Division II National Playoffs, falling both years in the National Championship Game.
 
While at NWMSU, he coached four different players to All Conference and/or All-American Honors.
 
Speer got his start in coaching at Clinton High School in Clinton, Mo., where he served as the Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach during the 2004 season.
 
A native of Harrisonville, Missouri, Speer played along the offensive line at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and Education from William Jewell in 2004 and his Masters of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education from Northwest Missouri State in 2006.
 
Speer and his wife, Karla, and two sons, Kyson and Kyler, reside in Calera.
