Scott Highsmith makes the move to Durant after spending the 2012 season on staff at McMurry working with the quarterbacks and handling team operations.
He has been coaching nearly 40 years, splitting time among the high school and college ranks.
In his first season working with the quarterbacks, Nick Sioson turned in the second-best passing season in school history, tossing for 2,958 yards with 20 touchdowns.

Sioson also tossed for 377 yards against Henderson State which is the fifth best single game mark in school history, while the team tallied over 3,000 yard passing by season’s end.

Prior to his season at McMurry under then head coach Hal Mumme, Highsmith coached at Hallsville High School for four seasons before reuniting with Mumme. The pair coached together at NCAA Division I University of Kentucky from 1999-2000. Highsmith coached the receivers for the Wildcats in 1999 and the running backs in 2000.
He followed Mumme’s tenure at Southeastern Louisiana State University where he was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2005-06. In 2005, he led the Lions to their third-best season as far as total offense averaging 403.1 yards per game.
He spent two seasons as the head coach at Belhaven College in Jackson, Miss., from 2003-04 where he also spent two previous seasons as offensive coordinator from 2001-02.
Highsmith’s high school career included stops at R.L. Turner, Denton High, Kilgore, Terrell, Bryan and Hallsville. His first coaching job was as a student coach at Howard Payne University in Brownwood where he graduated in 1977.
