SE Falls to OBU, 3-2

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern saw a 2-1 lead slip away on Friday afternoon as Ouachita Baptist handed the Savage Storm a disappointing 3-2 loss in Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium.
 
The loss drops SE to 2-22 on the year and 1-9 in Great American Conference play, while the Tigers improve to 7-14 overall and 4-6 in league play.
 
The Storm won the opening set 25-23, but OBU evened the score with a 25-23 win in set two.
 
SE jumped in front again with a 25-22 win in set three, but the Tigers would answer with wins of 25-16 and 15-11 in the final two sets to steal the victory.
 
Megan Kunkel and Emily Gentle posted matching 17 kill performances to lead the Southeastern offense, while Ariel Sanders chipped in eight and Madelynne Cera added six.
 
Marina Dias and Cera combined for 39 assists on the match, with Dias leading the way with 23 and Cera at 16.  Dias chipped in 14 digs for the double-double while Cera added a pair of blocks.
 
Taylor Benner led a group of four players to reach double-digit digs on the afternoon.  Benner's 20 was a team-high, while Kristin Martin added 15, Dias turned in 14 and Kunkel registered 13.
 
At the net, Sanders posted three blocks in the match, while Natasha Smith and Cera each added two.
 
The Storm will be back in action at home on Oct. 23 when it hosts Arkansas-Fort Smith at 7 p.m. in Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium.
