ALVA, Okla. – Southeastern built on the momentum of its win over East Central and picked up its second-straight win by downing Northwestern Oklahoma State 3-2 in Alva, Okla., on Saturday afternoon.
The win lifts the Savage Storm to 4-23 overall on the year and 3-9 in Great American Conference play looking to qualify for the league's postseason tournament.
The match scores could not have been much closer as NWOSU took the first set 25-23 before SE returned the favor with a 25-23 win in set two. The Third set went extra points with the Rangers winning 27-25, but the Storm again responded and won set four 25-23 before carrying that momentum into a 15-8 win in the fifth set.
Southeastern will be on the road for its next three contests with the next matchup coming in Lawton, Okla., against Cameron at 7 p.m. on Oct. 30.
Megan Kunkel turned in an impressive double-double to lead the way on offense and defense, turning in 13 kills and 21 digs along with a block.
Emily Gentle matched Kunkel's kill total with 13, while
Ariel Sanders added eight and
Madelynne Cera chipped in six.
Cera finished just shy of a double-double and once again flirted with the triple-double, dishing out 22 assists to go with her six kills and nine digs.
Taylor Benner paced the back row defense with 26 digs on the contest, while
Marina Dias added 10 to join Benner and Kunkel in double-digits.
The Storm were very strong on defense at the net, outblocking the Rangers 14-to-8, led by Gentle and
Natasha Smith. Gentle turned in eight blocks, while Smith added seven and
Jasmine Everage chipped in five.
