Storm Denied in 3-1 Loss at HSU

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Southeastern missed an opportunity to lock up a spot in the Great American Conference postseason tournament when it dropped a 3-1 road match against Henderson State on Saturday afternoon in Arkadelphia, Ark.
 
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 5-25 overall on the year and 3-10 in GAC play, while the Reddies improve to 7-21 on the season and 2-10 in league play.
 
Each team faces one more conference matchup this year and SE can lock up a trip to Searcy, Ark., for the tournament with a win over Southwestern Oklahoma State on Nov. 8 in the home finale or a loss by HSU to Arkansas Tech on Nov. 6 in Arkadelphia.
 
The Reddies won the first two sets by matching 25-21 scores before the Storm recovered with a 25-23 win in the third set.  HSU, however, would take set four 25-18 to seal the match.
 
Megan Kunkel led the way for the Storm with 15 kills with Emily Gentle not far behind with 13 kills.
 
Madelynne Cera triggered the offense with 21 assists while adding four kills and three digs to follow up her triple-double performance from the night before.
 
Marina Dias added 10 assists in the effort along with a pair of digs.
 
Taylor Benner led the back row defense with a 20 digs performance, with Kristin Martin right behind at 17 digs.  Gentle and Kunkel each turned in double-doubles with 15 and 13 digs, respectively.
 
Ariel Sanders posted a pair of solo blocks and Cera chipped in a pair of blocks to lead SE at the net.
 
The Storm will be back on the court on Nov. 5 when it hosts Pittsburg State at 7 p.m. in Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium and will close out the season three days later when it hosts SWOSU at 7 p.m. on Nov. 8.
