DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern got off to a slow start in its Monday night match against Pittsburg State and was unable to rally, falling 3-0 in Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium.
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 5-26 on the season heading into the regular season and home finale on Thursday at 7 p.m. against Southwestern Oklahoma State in Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium.
SE dropped the first set 25-12, fought back hard in set two only to fall 27-25 before dropping the third set 25-15.
Megan Kunkel turned in the only double-digit kill outing with 11 and completed the double-double with 10 digs.
Ariel Sanders turned in seven kills and
Emily Gentle added six as that trio accounted for 24 of SE's 25 kills in the match.
Madelynne Cera turned in 19 assists on the night and added eight digs.
Taylor Benner posted a team-high 13 digs, while
Jasmine Everage led the defense at the net with three blocks.
The opening set got away from the Storm early when the Gorillas ran off a 5-0 run to mount a 7-2 lead. PSU would use two other runs of four points to pull away to the 25-12 win.
Set two was a battle to the end as SE had serve on set point with a 24-22 lead, but saw the Gorillas score five of the last six points to steal the set 27-25.
The Storm fell behind 8-1 early in the third set and never really recovered. They would claw back to within six points at 17-11, but PSU would hold off any further rally for the 25-15 win.
