STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Southeastern volleyball was unable to carry over any momentum from the skid-snapping win on Friday evening, falling in a pair of contests on Saturday afternoon at the Tarleton State Classic in Stephenville, Texas.
The Savage Storm opened the day with a 3-0 loss to Lubbock Christian by scores of 25-13, 25-22 and 25-19; before moving on to close the event with a 3-0 loss to the host TexAnns, falling 25-15, 25-20 and 25-18.
With the losses, SE finishes the weekend with a 1-3 record and slips to 1-7 overall on the year.
Despite the rough outing,
Emily Gentle was selected to the all-tournament team following a weekend where she averaged 4.00 kills per set and added 2.50 digs per set and a pair of blocks.
It was
Megan Kunkel who paced the club against LCU, however, turning in 14 kills en route to hitting .375 for the match, while Gentle was on her heels with 12 kills.
Madelynne Cera continued to be a threat in multiple facets of the game, pacing the offense form the setter position with 25 assists, while also adding six kills, seven digs and one block.
Kunkel completed the double-double in the match by adding a match-best 15 digs, while
Taylor Benner chipped in 14 and
Marina Dias was right behind with 12.
SE finished with 5.0 team blocks, led by four from
Natasha Smith, three of which were solo blocks.
Gentle paced the way in the finale against TSU, turning in 12 kills, while Kunkel again broke double-digits with 10.
Cera completed her third double-double of the season with 15 assists and 12 digs.
Those 12 digs led the Storm on the back row, with Kunkel posting the next best outing with eight.
Jasmine Everage turned in a three block performance that included a pair of solos as SE held a 5.0-to-4.0 advantage at the net.
Southeastern will be back on the court Sept. 11 when it opens the home portion of the schedule against Southern Nazarene in a 7 p.m. matchup at Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium.
