Volleyball Travels to Face NWOSU

LIVE STATS

DURANT, Okla. – After opening the Great American Conference schedule with a tough-to-swallow loss, Southeastern volleyball will get back on the road looking to even its league record when it makes the trek diagonally across the state to face Northwestern Oklahoma State in Alva, Okla., at 2 p.m. on Sept. 21.

The Savage Storm come into the contest at 5-4 overall on the year and 0-1 in GAC play, while the Rangers enter Saturday's matchup with a 1-8 record overall and an 0-1 league mark.

SE has dropped its last two matches by matching 3-1 scores, but have done so against Central Oklahoma and Southern Nazarene who have combined to go 14-4 on the season.  Prior to those two matches the Storm sat 5-2 and boasted wins over a pair of MIAA schools.

Southeastern's offensive numbers are up over a season ago thanks to Emily Gentle's 4.15 kills per set which is currently third in the GAC, while Megan Kunkel is chipping in 3.24 kps which is fifth-best in the league.

Ariel Sanders has nearly doubled her kills per set from last season and is adding 2.06 per set, while Madelynne Cera and Courtney Miller are each averaging at least one per set.

Cera has also pushed her setting numbers up over a year ago and is second in the GAC with 9.54 assists per set, while pitching in everywhere on the floor on both offense and defense.  In addition to her 1.19 kills per set, she also adds 2.35 digs per set and has chipped in five blocks.

The back row defense is paced by Taylor Benner and Kunkel who are posting 3.67 and 3.48 digs per set, respectively.  Three other starters are averaging over two digs per set.

Along the net it has been the duo of Gentle and Benford providing the block coverage with .63 blocks per set, while Sanders is right there with .59 bps, and actually has the most blocks total on the year with 19.0.

NWOSU has lost two in-a-row since picking up its lone win over Mid-America Christian on Sept. 14 in Ada, Okla., including a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Southwestern Oklahoma State in the conference opener.

Hayley Brittain leads the club with 2.19 kills per set, while five others are averaging one or more per set.

Tiana Barnett and Kaydee Yukawa split the setting duties with Barnett dishing out 5.19 assists per set, while Yukawa adds 4.00 per set.

Megan Hentschke is the team's leader in digs with 3.52 per set, while Elisa Bentson is pacing them in blocks at .67 blocks per set.
