PITTSBURG, Kan. – Southeastern opens the 2013 volleyball season on Friday with a pair of contests as part of the Pittsburg State Classic in Pittsburg, Kan., on Sept. 6-7.
SE opens the year against the hosts at 11:30 am on Friday, and follow with a 3:30 pm matchup against Rockhurst.
The Savage Storm will face another MIAA opponent at 10 am on Saturday morning when they take on Missouri Southern State, and will close out the weekend with a 1 pm match against Quincy.
Southeastern is coming off a tough season, but did make its second-straight trip to the Great American Conference tournament.
The Storm bring back six starters and eight letterwinners and see just one starter depart.
Seniors
Taylor Benner and
Kristin Martin each started games a season ago, with Benner serving as the team's libero.
SE also returns its honorable mention all-conference setter Medelynne Cera, as well second team all-conference outside hitters
Emily Gentle and GAC Freshman of the Year Megan Kunkle.
The Storm also see the return of
Courtney Miller who was Southeastern's number two attacker in 2011 before missing last season due to injury.
They were picked to finish eighth in the GAC preseason poll.
PSU posted a 17-13 record a season ago, and finished 10-3 against non-conference opponents and was picked fifth in the MIAA to start this season.
Rockhurst went 28-7 in 2012, including a 14-4 mark in GLVC play.
MSSU opens 2013 picked 12
th in the MIAA and is coming off a 2012 season that saw them finish 0-30.
Quincy posted a 14-16 record a year ago and is picked to finish sixth in the GLVC West division.
