SEARCY, Ark. – Southeastern wrapped up a spectacular two-match road swing by taking down its second ranked Great American Conference opponent with a 6-3 victory over No. 47 Harding in Searcy, Ark., on Saturday.
The win lifts the Savage Storm to 10-5 overall on the year and 2-0 in GAC play.
The win over the Bisons was similar to the win over Ouachita Baptist, starting with doubles play.
SE bounced back from a narrow 9-8 (7-3) tiebreaker loss at number one and rallied for a 2-1 doubles win.
The pair of
Alberto Blesa and
Tiago Ferreira evened the score with an 8-6 win at two doubles, with the duo of
Billy Haugen and
Nathan Nelmes picking up an 8-6 win of their own at number three to pick up the 2-1 lead.
HU would even the score with a very narrow victory at number one singles, but Nelmes would put the Storm back in front with a 6-4, 6-2 win at the number two position.
The Bisons would answer with a win at number three singles, but that was the end of their attempt to rally as Ferreira picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win at number four to put SE in front for good at 4-3.
Martin Bedcarratz would add a 6-4, 6-4 win of his own at number five to provide the clinching victory, and
Renato Joao added a 7-6 (7), 6-3 win at number six to fashion the 6-3 victory.
