LIVE STATSGAME NOTESDURANT, Okla. – Southeastern will set out to even its record when it hosts Arkansas-Monticello in the home opener on Sept. 13 at 6 p.m. at Paul Laird Field.
The Savage Storm come into the contest at 0-1 on the year after a heartbreaking road loss to Southern Arkansas in which the Muleriders tied the game on the final play of regulation and kicked the PAT to hand SE a 30-29 defeat.
UAM comes to town after a disappointing loss of its own, dropping a 38-34 decision to East Central at home after holding a 10 point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Southeastern had its share of highlights in the opener, led by a massive 228 yard rushing performance from
Devlon Wortham with three scores.
He piled up those yards on 14 carries and boasts a 16.3 yards per carry average, and over two seasons he has amassed 448 rushing yards and six touchdowns against SAU.
Wortham's most recent effort was good for the sixth best rushing outing in school history.
In his first start at quarterback,
Ryan Polite completed 12-of-23 passes for 84 yards and a touchdown, but added 75 yards rushing on 14 carries.
Kaymon Farmer hauled in a team high five passes, but
Franky Okafor posted 41 yards and the team's lone receiving TD.
The Storm defense forced three turnovers, with
Chad Tucker and
Troy Parker each picking off a pass and Tucker adding a fumble recovery.
For the Boll Weevils, Colton Morrison led the offense with a 23-of-47 passing night for 289 yards, but had a pair of picks and no touchdowns.
Rod Smith and Brett Courville scored the team's offensive touchdowns on the ground, with Smith putting up 45 yards on 25 carries.
UAM did its real damage on special teams where Mike Early returned a pair of kicks for touchdowns, including one of 89 yards, averaging 61.0 yards per return on his three chances.
Jamie McGee added a pair of field goals as well.
Defensively the Boll Weevils forced three turnovers, but allowed 212 yards rushing and 286 passing to ECU.
