Box Score DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern closed out the first day of its South Central Classic schedule with a hard fought 3-0 loss to No. 7 Washburn on Friday night in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 3-4 on the year heading into day two of the tournament where it will face Central Oklahoma at 10 a.m. and Missouri Southern State at 4 p.m.

Megan Kunkel led the offense to the tune of 12 kills while hitting .435 on 23 attempts.
Â
Emily Gentle chipped in seven kills, while
Julia Benford added six.

Madelynne Cera and
Alissa Benson split the setting duties, with Cera dishing out 16 and Benson adding 13.

Defensively Kunkel completed the double-double with 12 digs, while
Kelsey Zerkel chipped in 11 and Gentle added nine.

Benson led the way at the net with three blocks, while
Ariel Sanders added two.

SE got off to a slow start in the opening set with Washburn jumping out to a 4-0 lead that the Storm could not bounce back from as the Ichabods pulled away to a 25-13 set win.

Southeastern fell behind by four points early in the second set, but responded and eventually tied the set at 12-12. The teams would trade points before WU would take the lead and sneak out to a 20-16 edge.

The Storm would close the gap to 20-19, but that was as close as they would get as the Ichabods won the second set 25-22.

SE scored the first four points of the third set and jumped to a 6-1 lead, but WU answered and knotted the score at 6-6.

The set was back-and-forth until Washburn used an 11-4 run to open a 19-13 lead and hold on for the 25-19 win in the set.
