SHAWNEE, Okla. – Southeastern men's tennis opened the fall portion of its 2014-15 schedule with a pair of wins over the weekend, downing Oklahoma Baptist 7-2 and following that up with a 6-3 win over Cowley County CC in Shawnee, Okla.

The Savage Storm got off to a good start against future conference rival OBU, taking two out of three doubles matches to mount a 2-1 lead.

Alberto Blesa and Tiago Ferriera pulled out an 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles, while
Billy Haugen and
Renato Joao followed up with an 8-4 win at No. 3.

That momentum carried into singles play where Blesa at No. 1 singles rallied to pull out a hard fought match 4-6, 7-6, 10-6 to stretch the lead to 4-2.

The Bisons would get a win at No. 2 to close the score to 4-2, but Ferriera would get the team back on track with a 7-6, 6-4 win at No. 3.

Southeastern would sweep the remaining positions with Joao taking No. 4 singles 6-4, 6-2, followed by a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5 for Joaquin Aguillara and Haugen finished off the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6.

The Storm would also jump out to a 2-1 lead against Cowley County, this time dropping No. 1 doubles with
Petar Popovic and Vlad Aikmenko picking up an 8-2 win at No. 2 and Haugen and Joao pulling out a win at No. 3 in a 7-5 tiebreaker after fighting to an 8-8 tie.

Blesa would bounce back in singles play and pick up his second win of the day in a similar fashion as the first, going 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 at No. 1.

Cowley County would answer and tie the match at 3-3 with wins at Nos. 2 and 3.

Aguillara would get the team back on track with a 6-4, 7-6 win at No. 4 and SE would not look back.

Chris Carillo would pick up a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5 and Haugen would close out the match with a win at No. 6 to pick up the 6-3 win.
