SE Drops First Leg of Road Swing

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Despite a blowout second set win, Southeastern's road woes continued on Friday night in a 3-1 loss to Henderson State in Arkadelphia, Ark.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 4-16 overall on the year and 2-6 in Great American Conference play heading into a 1 p.m. Saturday matchup against Ouachita Baptist.

Abby Jameson returned to the lineup in a big way by posting 16 kills and hitting .406 in the process while turning in a double-double with 11 digs.

Caitlyn Mills and Erika Costain each added eight kills, while Arianna Baker chipped in seven.

For HSU, 46 of their 50 kills in the match came from the trio of Gabby Ginapp, Jessie Jacoby and Kaylie Pyles.

Alissa Benson dished out a match-best 42 assists and added in three kills and 10 digs.

Charlene Nerio put up a team-high 16 digs to lead the back-row defense.

At the net Baker turned in five blocks, while Mills added four, two of which were solo.  In all, SE held a 9.0-to-4.0 edge in blocking.

HSU used a 6-2 run in the first set to slowly build a lead and held off a Storm rally for a 25-20 win in set one.

SE came back in force in the second set, using a 10-0 run to take control early and scoring five of the last six points in the set to take it 25-12 and even the match at 1-1.

The Storm looked to carry that momentum into set three, jumping ahead by as much as 11-3 before a 13-3 Reddie run put the host team back in front.  SE would regain the lead late at 23-21, but HSU would score the final four points of the set for a 25-23 win to take a 2-1 lead.

Southeastern again started strong with a 5-2 lead and despite multiple lead changes, held a 17-16 lead late in the fourth set.  However, a 9-4 run to end the set, including the final three points by HSU would clinch the match for the home team and hand SE a 3-1 loss.
