DURANT, Okla. – Despite a convincing first-set performance and taking a 1-0 lead on conference-leading Arkansas Tech, Southeastern was unable to close out key points in the final three sets and fell 3-1 on Thursday night in Bloomer Sullivan Gym.
The loss drops them to 4-13 on the year and 2-4 in Great American Conference play as they immediately jump back into9 action on Oct. 9 when they host Harding at 7 p.m.
SE took the opening set 25-18 while out-hitting ATU .424-to-.167, but the Golden Suns rallied and stole sets two and three by scores of 25-23 each. The fourth set went to extra points, but the Storm was unable to hold off a 3-0 run to end the match by ATU at 28-26.
Abby Jameson turned in another huge outing with 18 kills, while
Julia Benford added 12 in the effort.
Jessica Baker pitched in eight, followed by
Kristina Bergman at seven and
Arianna Baker at six.
Alissa Benson dished out 43 assists on the night while also adding four kills, eight digs and two blocks.
Cherlene Nerio picked up 16 digs to lead the way with Jameson's 11 next in line.
Jameson and
Arianna Baker each turned in three blocks to lead the net defense.
