LAWTON, Okla. - Southeastern picked up its 18
th win of the season and the seventh in its last eight matches by closing out the regular season with an 8-1 win over Texas-Permian Basin on Sunday afternoon in Lawton, Okla.
The win lifted the team to 18-3 to end the regular season with its next action coming in the Great American Conference tournament April 24-25 where it will enter as the top seed after winning a second-straight GAC regular season championship.
The Savage Storm swept doubles play, first with
Maxim Fil and
Tiago Ferreira picking up an 8-3 win at one doubles.
That was followed by an 8-6 win at number two by
Alberto Blesa and
Jack Gibbens, with
Petar Popovic and
Paul Nguyen completing the sweep with an 8-4 win at number three.
Fil continued his momentum into singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win at number one to stretch the lead to 4-0.
Blesa would cap the match with a 6-2, 6-3 clinching win at number two singles.
Ferreira followed with the most dominant win of the afternoon at number three with a 6-0, 6-0 win, while Gibbens stretched the score to 7-0 with a 6-4, 6-0 win at four singles.
Joaquin Aguillera would pick up the eighth point with a 6-2, 6-2 win at number five singles, before UTPB swiped the final match of the day at number six.
