Volleyball Set to Host Rival ECU

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern will finally return to Durant for its true home opener when it hosts rival East Central in its usual home, Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium, on Sept. 24 at 7 p.m.
 
Thursday's contest is a "White Out" matchup and fans are encouraged to wear white to the match.
 
The game will be the first of the season in the gymnasium after the team opened its home schedule in Bloomer Sullivan Arena two weeks ago when it hosted the South Central Classic.
 
Thursday's game will also be carried on the Southeastern Sports Network with live audio and video available at GoSoutheastern.com/SESportsNet with Joey McWilliams on the call.
 
The Savage Storm come into the contest in need of a win to both snap a four-match losing skid as well as get in the win column in Great American Conference play.
 
SE fell in a 3-1 road matchup against Oklahoma Baptist last trip out, dropping the team to 2-10 on the year and 0-2 in league play.
 
Despite the rough start, there have been bright spots, including the offensive effort of freshman Abby Jameson who is leading the team and is fourth in the GAC in kills at 3.71 kills per set.
 
Julia Benford is adding 2.41 kps on the offensive front, while three others are adding at least one kill per set.
 
Alissa Benson has triggered the offense with 8.39 assists per set, while also adding 1.95 digs per set and 16 total blocks.
 
Defensively, Charlene Nerio is leading the back row with 4.10 digs per set which is eighth best in the GAC, while Jameson is at 2.63 per set and seven others are at 1.29 dps or higher.
 
At the net, Arianna Baker leads the charge with 25 total blocks, while Benford is right behind at 23 and three others are in double-digits.
 
ECU comes to town with a 3-7 record overall and an 0-1 mark in conference play after snapping a three-match losing skid with a 3-0 win in its last match against Bacone.
 
The Tigers lean on Madyson Gill offensively as she averages 3.09 kills per set, while Taylor Turner is dishing out 8.23 assists per set.
 
On defense Lily Porsa works the back row with a team-high 3.43 digs per set, while Hayley Gerken patrols the net with 22 total blocks on the year.
