COMMERCE, Texas – Coming off a dominant performance in a win over rival East Central, Southeastern was unable to carry that momentum into a Friday rematch with Texas A&M-Commerce, falling 3-1 in Commerce, Texas.
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 3-11 overall on the year as they will return home Sept. 29 to host Southwestern Oklahoma State in Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
Arianna Baker turned in a season-high 19 kills, surpassing her previous high on the year by 10 kills. She hit .548 for the match with just two errors.
Abby Jameson and
Julia Benford each added 13 kills, with Benford hitting .458 on the night.
Alissa Benson dished out 43 assists in the match and added a pair of kills, 10 digs and two blocks.
The defense was led along the back row by Jameson who turned in 16 digs, while
Charlene Nerio added 12 and Benson 10.
Baker led the defense at the net with four blocks, while Benford added three.
Southeastern opened with a win in the first set, rallying from a 19-14 deficit by using a 7-2 run to tie the match at 21 and then taking four of the final six points for a 25-23 win and a 1-0 match lead.
However, in the second set the Storm would struggle to take consecutive points after opening up a 4-1 lead and see TAMUC pull away with a 25-15 win in the set to event he match at 1-1.
The Lions would jump ahead early and hold off a late rally to jump to a 2-1 lead with a 25-19 win in the third set.
The Storm used another big rally in the fourth set to recover from an 18-11 deficit and forced set point at 25-24, but TAMUC would swipe four of the next five points to steal the clinching match 28-26.
