SE Set for First 2016 Road Trip

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern will aim to carry the momentum from a 3-1 opening weekend into its first road trip when it heads to Wichita Falls, Texas, for the MSU Hampton Inn-Vitational Sept. 9-10.
 
The Savage Storm open the weekend with Dallas Baptist on Friday at 12:30 p.m., followed by a 5:30 p.m. matchup with Fort Lewis.  Saturday SE will face Cameron at 12:30 p.m. before closing out the weekend with a 5:30 p.m. contest with host Midwestern State.
 
Southeastern had its best opening weekend since the 2009 season, with the only loss coming to then-No. 12 Central Oklahoma.
 
Alissa Benson was named the Great American Conference setter of the week following a weekend in which she led the entire conference over the opening weekend with 10.93 assists per set on the strength of three of the six best three-set assist matches in the league.
 
Abby Jameson turned in 3.79 kills per set to lead the offense, but three other added at least two kills per set as the Storm out-killed its opponents 13.2-to-11.0 for the weekend.
 
The offense was bolstered by a total of 30 service aces which averaged out to 2.1 per set, led by Karine Cavalcante who logged 1.00 aps.
 
Defensively, Caitlin Cosby picked up 6.08 digs per set for the weekend and was one of just two players in the conference to surpass the six dig per set average.  Three other players added two-or-more kills per set and SE out-dug its opponents 15.6-to-12.6.


At the net Arianna Baker had 9.0 blocks, while Julia Benford and Jameson each added 7.0.
 
DBU comes into the weekend at 0-4 on the season after a trip to Colorado to open the year, while FLC comes in at 1-3 on the year after a trip to San Marcos, Calif.
 
CU comes into the weekend with a 1-3 record on the year after opening the season in Durant at the South Central Classic, while MSU enters its own tournament after a trip to Topeka, Kan., to face a foursome of MIAA schools.
