BENTONVILLE, Ark. – No. 19 Southeastern saw its 2017 Great American Conference run come to a premature end on Friday afternoon with a 5-0 semifinal loss to Ouachita Baptist in Bentonville, Ark.
Â
The loss dips the Savage Storm record to 10-8 overall on the season and ends a run of three-straight years with a regular season or conference championship.
Â
It was only the second shutout the team has suffered in 2017, and saw SE struggle uncharacteristically in doubles, falling behind 3-0 heading to singles play.
Â
Kelian Bouteiller and
Mislav Colak nearly struck a blow in doubles action, but fell 9-7 in the three position.
Â
OBU would pick up a straight-sets win at the one position, and similarly to doubles play, Bouteiller would open his match at the three spot with a 6-3 win in the first set, but dropped set two 6-4 and saw the momentum swing in OBU's favor with a 6-1 win in the third set which clinched the contest for the Tigers.
Â
Southeastern entered the tournament as the No. 4 seed in the Central Region and will now have to wait and see how things shake out in the region as they look to make a return trip to the Central Regional.
