Savage Storm Split First Day at UNK

KEARNEY, Neb. – Southeastern bounced back from a tough 3-0 loss to fifth-ranked Nebraska-Kearney to score a 3-0 win over Western State to close out day one of the UNK Fall Classic on Friday in Kearney, Neb.

 

The split moves the Savage Storm to 3-3 on the season with two more games on the slate in Nebraska, first against Texas A&M-Kingsville at 10 a.m. followed by a 2 p.m. contest with No. 25 Rockhurst.

 

In the opener Arianna Baker paced the offense with 15 kills and hit .625 for the match with no attack errors.

 

Taylor Robinson added eight kills, while Caroline Griffith chipped in five.

 

Alissa Benson triggered the offense with 33 assists, while adding a kill, three blocks and 11 digs.

 

Caitlin Cosby led the back row defensive effort with 19 digs, while Benson was next in line with her 11.

 

Griffith would add four blocks on defense, with Benson's three next in line.

 

SE took the opening set 25-18, and stepped up its game in the second set by running away with a 25-14 win. The Storm closed out the match with a 25-15 win in the finale for the 3-0 match victory.

 

In the loss to No. 5 UNK it was also Baker leading the way on offense with nine kills, while Abby Jameson was right behind with eight.

 

Benson finished with 27 assists to guide the offense, while on defense Cosby added 14 digs.

 

The Storm dropped the opening set 25-16 and were unable to close the gap over the next two sets, dropping both 25-12 in a 3-0 defeat.
