DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern volleyball opened the 2018 season with a 3-2 victory over William Jewell, but was unable to carry that momentum through the day, falling in match two to Northwest Missouri State 3-0 in the Washburn Invitational in Topeka, Kan.

The split leaves the team 1-1 on the young season heading into day two of the event where they will face Colorado State-Pueblo at 11 a.m. followed by Washburn at 5 p.m.

Abby Jameson paced all attackers in the opener as she piled up 18 kills while hitting .310 for the match, while
Taylor Robinson and
Arianna Baker each joined her in double-figures with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

Robinson also added five service aces in the match, while
Sydney Meget tacked on three.
Â
Meget paced the setting duties as well while sharing them with
Jodi Dixon, with Meget turning in 32 assists to trigger the offense while Dixon added 12.

On defense
Caitlin Cosby picked up where she left off and turned in 25 digs on the contest, while Meget added 18 and Robinson turned in 14. Both Meget and Robinson finished with double-double outings.

At the net, Baker turned in three blocks to lead the SE defense.

SE scored three of the final four points in the first set to take it 25-23, but saw the same thing happen in reverse in set to, falling 25-23 and evening the match at 1-1.

WJU would take the third set 25-21, but the Storm would survive match point in the fourth set and rally for a 26-24 win to even the match a second time.

They would then ride that momentum and pull out a 15-12 win in the deciding set for the 3-2 match victory.

In the day's finale, Jameson would again pace SE with a double-digit kill outing, finishing with 10, while Baker was next in line with six.

Meget triggered the offense with 22 assists while also leading the defense with 13 digs.

Cosby was right behind with 10 digs, while
Hallie Smith and Baker each added two blocks.

SE fell 25-25 in the opening set and closed the gap in set two despite still falling 25-19 to fall behind 2-0.

NWMSU would take the third set by a 25-16 score to clinch the 3-0 win.
