Savage Storm Tripped Up in Five-Sets

DURANT, Okla. – For the second-straight match Southeastern went five sets, however this time it would not fall in the Savage Storm favor, falling 3-2 to Southern Nazarene on Saturday afternoon.

The loss drops SE to 5-10 overall on the year and 1-2 in Great American Conference play heading into a Sept. 18 matchup on the road against Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford, Okla.

The Southeastern offense was paced by Abby Jameson who posted a match-high 15 kills while hitting .387 with Arianna Baker posting 11 kills and hitting .304.

Hallie Smith and Taylor Robinson nearly reached double-figures with nine kills apiece.

Sydney Meget triggered the offense with a season-best 47 assists while adding a kill, two aces and 11 digs.

Kristi Carter led the Storm on defense with 16 digs, while Caitlin Cosby was right behind her with 15 followed by the 11 put up by Meget.

Baker led the net defense with four blocks, while Caroline Griffith added two.

SE was sluggish out of the gate and fell behind 1-0 after a 25-15 first set loss.

The Storm trailed early in the second as well before putting together a 7-1 run to climb back in and ultimately close out the set with five of the final six points for a 27-25 win to even the match 1-1.

Southeastern carried momentum into the third set where it would score the first five points and eventually lead 20-5 before taking a 2-1 lead with a 25-11 win in the set.

After losing an early lead in the fourth set the Storm were unable to run down SNU as the match evened with a 25-22 win by the visitors.

The fifth set was back-and-forth to start, but a 6-2 run midway through gave the Crimson Storm breathing room and SE would eventually fall 15-12.
