SHAWNEE, Okla. – Southeastern opened the GAC-MIAA Crossover with a 3-2 victory over Ft. Hays State, but was unable to carry the momentum through the day, falling 3-1 to Southwest Baptist in the day's finale in Shawnee, Okla.

The Savage Storm will return to the court for day two, moving to Edmond, Okla., to take on Central Oklahoma at noon followed by Emporia State at 4 p.m.

Southeastern opened the day in a dramatic, back-and-forth, five-set victory over Fort Hays State.

The Savage Storm were paced by
Arianna Baker and
Erika Costain who each finished the match with 11 kills, while
Abby Jameson was right behind with 10.Â
Hallie Smith chipped in nine in the effort, while
Hannah Grant added seven.

Sydney Meget paced the pair of setters with 26 assists while adding eight digs, with
Jodi Dixon turning in 19 assists and adding eight digs of her own.

Caitlin Cosby paced all defenders with 26 digs, and in the process became the third player in SE history to surpass 1,500 career digs and the sixth player in Great American Conference history.

She was joined in double-digit digs by
Jaclyn Menner who turned in 11.

Grant and Smith paced the defense at the net with three blocks each, while Baker added two.

The Storm jumped out to an early lead with a 25-17 win in the first set, but saw the score even with a 25-19 loss in set two.

SE regained the upper hand in the third with a 25-14 win, but the balance swung again to a FHSU win in the fourth, 25-20, to even the match at 2-2.

Southeastern used an 8-0 run in the fifth set to take control and cruise to a 15-7 win in the deciding tilt for the 3-2 victory.

Jameson powered the Storm offense in game two versus SBU, posting 15 kills, with
Hallie Smith next in line with seven.

Meget handed out 24 assists in the effort, while Dixon chipped in nine.

Cosby continued to add to her ever-climbing dig total, turning in a team-high 17 with
Grace Shehadeh next up at 12 and Menner adding 11

Caroline Griffith led the defense at the net with four blocks with Grant next up with two.

SE opened the match with a 25-17 win in set one, but SBU turned the tables in set two, taking it 25-23 and followed with wins of 25-20 and 25-23 to hand the Storm the 3-1 loss.
