DURANT, Okla. – Slow starts proved costly as Southeastern fell to Arkansas Tech by a 3-0 score on Friday evening in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
Â
The Savage Storm slip to 1-15 overall and 0-6 in Great American Conference play and will be back in action at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 12 to take on Harding in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
Â
Hannah Grant paced the Storm offense with a match-high 13 kills, while
Aleksandra Rodic followed with seven and
Caroline Griffith chipped in six.
Â
Arabella Bouchard dished out 25 assists to trigger the offense while adding a kill and an ace on offense along with a block and three digs on defense.
Â
Caitlin Cosby paced all defenders with 22 digs in the match, accounting for half of the Storm's 44 total digs as a team.
Â
Malaysia Burns turned in a pair of blocks, while Grant and Bouchard added one each.
Â
SE got off to slow starts in each of its sets, falling behind 5-1 to open the first set but staying within striking distance before using a 5-1 run of its own to close the gap to 20-19.
Â
ATU would take four of the next five points but the Storm got back-to-back Rodic kills to make it 24-22, but were unable to complete the comeback in a 25-22 loss.
Â
After scoring the first two points of set two, SE would see the Golden Suns reel off a 5-0 run to take the lead.
Â
Southeastern would rally to 13-11 thanks to three-straight points, two of them Grant kills, but ATU would stop that run and eventually take the final four points of the set to win it 25-16 and take a 2-0 lead.
Â
The Suns would again jump to a 5-1 lead to open set three, but this time the Storm stayed close and used a 4-1 run to tie the game at 13-13 and again at 14-14.
Â
Unfortunately, ATU would score 11 of the final 14 points to pull away with a 25-17 win in the third set and swipe the match 3-0.
