ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Four Southeastern hitters finished with double-digit kills and the Savage Storm rallied to force a fifth-set, but at the end of the night found itself on the short end of a 3-2 loss at Ouachita Baptist on Friday night in Arkadelphia, Ark.
Â
Southeastern will be back in action Oct. 22 when it steps out of conference to take on Texas A&M-Commerce at 6 p.m. in Commerce, Texas.
Â
Malaysia Burns led all attackers in the match with 15 kills, while
Hannah Grant was right behind with 14.
Â
Caroline Griffith checked in with 12 with
Aleksandra Rodic posting 10.
Â
Arabella Bouchard powered the offense with 40 assists while adding eight digs.
Â
Caitlin Cosby paced all defenders in the match with 30 digs, followed by 11 from
Sydney Meget and 10 from
Grace Shehadeh.
Â
Burns and Grant led the defense at the net with three blocks apiece.
Â
In the opening set the Storm used a big 9-1 run to pull away near the midway point and take the set 25-18.
Â
OBU responded and used big runs of their own in each of the second and third sets, winning set two 25-19 and set three 25-22.
Â
SE bounced back in the fourth set, scoring eight of the final 12 points to erase a two-point deficit and pick up a 25-23 win to even the match at 2-2.
Â
However, the Storm rally would run out of momentum in the fifth set as the Tigers would use a 7-0 run to mount a 10-2 lead that SE was unable to recover from in a 15-4 loss in the final set.
