SE Tripped Up in 3-1 Loss to UAM

DURANT, Okla. – After coming from a set down to even the match at 1-1 against Arkansas-Monticello, the Southeastern rally ran out of steam in a 3-1 loss on Saturday morning in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.

The loss drops the Savage Storm to 2-20 on the year and 1-10 in Great American Conference play heading into a two-match road swing Oct. 31 against Northwestern Oklahoma State in Alva, Okla., followed by a Nov. 1 contest against Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford, Okla.

Offensively, Caroline Griffith and Hannah Grant each collected 11 kills, while Aleksandra Rodic was just shy of double-digits with nine.

Errors doomed the Storm effort as the team combined for 26 on the match across from UAM's 11 total attack errors.

Arabella Bouchard handed out 36 assists in the contest while also chipping in a service ace, a block, and 12 digs.

Defensively, Caitlin Cosby took a big step in climbing the GAC career digs list with 24 on the match, while Bouchard was next in line with 12, followed by Micah Stiggers with 11 and Rodic with 10.

The teams traded runs in the opening set, but SE eventually found itself playing catchup as the Cotton Blossoms took the opening set 25-18.

SE came Storming back in set two after a slow start, using a 10-3 run to erase a deficit and take a 16-12 lead.

UAM would rally to tie the match twice, the last time at 18-18, but the Storm would pull ahead and hold on for a 25-22 win to even the match at 1-1.

All the momentum SE picked up in set two disappeared in set three as UAM jumped to a 10-2 lead from the start and the Storm was unable to recover in a 25-7 loss to fall behind 2-1.

The fourth set stayed close, with SE trailing 16-14 when UAM used a 6-1 run to go ahead 22-15 en route to a 25-19 set win to clinch the match 3-1.
