DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern's
Kevin Buckingham added another honor to his 2018-19 portfolio when he was named a D2CCA First Team All-Central Region selection on Friday.
Â
He becomes Southeastern's first All-Region selection since Eric Babers earned the honor in 2007.
Â
This selection comes on the heels of being the first men's basketball player since joining the NCAA to earn Academic All-American honors.
Â
He also helped the Savage Storm return to NCAA postseason play for the first time since 2007 when SE advanced to the regional final.
Â
Buckingham currently ranks third in the GAC in scoring and is one of three player averaging 20-plus points per game, putting up 20.3 per outing and shooting 61.2 percent from the field while leading the league in rebounding with 9.5 rpg.
Â
Buckingham was named the Great American Conference Player of the Year and a first team all-conference selection and followed that by earning all-tournament team honors at the GAC Tournament.
Â
He and the Storm will be back in action on March 16 when it faces Northern State at 2:30 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA Division II National Tournament in Maryville, MO.
