DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State is very proud to announce that Cameron Lampkin from Ardmore City schools, has signed a letter of intent to be a part of the men's basketball program.
A seven-year-old, 4-8, 86 pound athlete, Cameron brings a vibrant personality, toughness and a willingness to be a great teammate to this seasons Savage Storm team.
"Coming off last season's NCAA tournament appearance, we knew we needed to continue to upgrade our roster and find someone who could make an immediate impact and be a smooth fit with our returners," stated Coach
Kelly Green. "Cameron is that guy!"
Cameron comes to Southeastern as a member of Team IMPACT. Since 2011, Team IMPACT has been matching children battling serious and chronic illnesses with college athletic teams, forming lifelong bonds and life-changing outcomes. For two years, children gain a team of support as they battle illness, and student athletes gain a perspective on life that can't be learned in the classroom or on the playing field.
Since birth, Cameron has dealt with multiple rare and life threatening conditions. Relapsing Polychondritis is the most prominent conditions. Relapsing Polychondritis (RP) is an autoimmune condition in which the body sees cartilage as foreign and attacks and destroys it.
Cameron's RP so far has affected his ears and joints. He takes weekly shots and medications to help keep the RP flare ups from occurring as they are painful and cause damage to his body each time they occur. When a flare up does occur it causes swelling, redness and fever of the affected areas with cartilage which on Cameron it has always been his ears.
He also has hydrocephalus (fluid on the brain), Chiari Malformation (brain is falling into spinal column), laryngeal cleft, and genetic issues including Xq28 duplication, Mecp2, Mcap syndrome, and PIK3Ca.
Green continued:
"Cameron's fight and perseverance while battling adverse physical conditions each day, is a true testimony of his strong will and is a lesson to us all on how to deal with many of life's difficult circumstances while maintaining a positive attitude and work ethic. We are ecstatic to have Cameron as a part of our team and look forward to great days ahead for Cameron, his family and our basketball team through this relationship."
