Rough Stock Rules at KSU Rodeo

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Southeastern opened the spring portion of its season by shaking the rust off at the Kansas State Rodeo in Manhattan, Kan.

The Savage Storm men turned in a pair of event championships and a second place finish for the weekend as a team.

SE's women had a sluggish weekend and came out with a seventh place finish.

Following the KSU Rodeo the men's team was able to advance in the standings from sixth place to third place, while the women slipped one spot from second to third in the Central Plains Region standings.

The bareback riding opened up with both Jasper Dunn and Dylan Riggins each getting two rides with no short go round because of the number of competitors entered.

Dunn left Manhattan, Kan., with his first college bareback riding championship earning 74 points on his first ride which was good for third in the first go round and turned in the weekend's highest score in his second ride with an 80, giving him a first place finish in the round and the average for the weekend.

Riggins had some bad luck after an early exit on his first ride, receiving a no score. He bounced back the next day and came back with a score of 78 on his second horse to win second in the round and leave KSU with a fifth place finish for the weekend.

Dunn moved into fifth place in the region bareback standing, while Riggins moved to third.

The saddle bronc riding saw Rowdy Chesser post a third place finish for the weekend.  He was able to turn out a 70 point ride in the long go round placing fifth and came back in the short go round with a score of 81 giving him a second and third place split.

Following KSU Chesser was able to maintain fourth place in the region standings.

In the bull riding competition Hayden Harris turned in the highest bull riding score of the weekend with a score of 86 in the long go round giving him first place in the round.

Harris came back and had some bad luck not making the whistle and taking a no score in the short go round.

Only one bull rider rode two bulls on the weekend and Harris was able to place second at KSU and advance to 3rd place in the regional standings.

The tie down roping included Holden Myers and Garrett Koester in the short go round.

Koester stopped the clock with an 11.0 making it back in tenth place to the short go round where he was able to improve his time to a 10.5 and win the short go round giving him a 4th/5th place split for the weekend.

Myers turned in a 10.1 in the long go round and a fifth place finish.  He came up short in the short go and left Manhattan with a seventh place finish.

Following KSU Myers is in 10th place and koester is 14th place in the standings.

Franzen had an average of 8.5 over two rides, giving him a first place finish.

The win moved him into second place in the region standings following K-State.

The women's team had a strongest showing in the women's goat tying bringing back Martie Shockley, Lainey Cooper and Bailey Witt to the short go round.

Shockley turned in a 6.7 in the long go round giving her a second place finish, while Cooper and Witt were both able to post a 7.6 to come back in 10th place.
