DENTON, Texas –
Skylor Lewis and
Caroline Griffith each posted double-digit kills, but it was not enough to pick up a road win as Southeastern saw a 2-0 lead disappear in a 3-2 loss to Texas Woman's on Tuesday night in Denton, Texas.
Â
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 7-11 overall as they return to Great American Conference play Oct. 22 against Harding in Searcy, Ark.
Â
Lewis matched a match high with 13 kills, while Griffith reached double-figures with 10.
Mya Afflerbach and
Ruthie Forson were each just short of double-digits with nine, while
Jadyn James each added eight.
Â
Forson nearly turned in a triple-double as she dished out 41 assists with her nine kills on offense, while posting 18 digs on defense.
Â
Lewis also led the way on defense with 22 digs and posted a team-best three blocks, while
Grace Shehadeh was right behind with 21 digs and Griffith added two blocks.
Â
SE took an early lead in set one and never looked back, pushing the lead out to 12-6 early and holding on for a 25-20 win to take a 1-0 lead.
Â
TWU took the early lead and was up 9-7 before an 8-1 run by the Storm put the Storm in control. SE would finish the set by taking 10 of the final 13 points to run away with a 25-13 win and a 2-0 lead.
Â
Set three was a back-and-forth effort, with the Storm taking a 19-18 lead late before TWU answered with four-straight points on its way to a 25-22 win.
Â
In the fourth set SE would again grab a late lead, going up 20-19 on a Lewis kill before the Patriots again went on a late run, taking six of the last seven points to win the set 25-21 and knotting the match at 2-2.
Â
Southeastern found itself playing catch up in the fifth set, but a Lewis block followed by a Lewis kill would tie the set at 10-10. TWU would regain the lead, but again SE answered and knotted the game up at 12-12. However, the Patriots would collect three of the final four points to take the set 15-13 and the match 3-2.
