Storm Drop 3-1 Decision at SWOSU

WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southeastern picked up a win in the opening set but was unable to carry that momentum further into the match in a 3-1 loss to Southwestern Oklahoma State on Friday night in Weatherford, Okla.
 
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 1-6 on the season heading into a Saturday matchup with Northwestern Oklahoma State at 3 p.m. in Alva, Okla.
 
Skylor Lewis led the offense for the Storm with 12 kills, while Jocelyn Grewing was next in line with nine.
 
SE was more efficient on the attack for the contest, hitting .228 to SWOSU's .198, but trailed in total kills 58-to-47.
 
Ruthie Forson handed out 35 assists for the match while chipping in five kills on offense and posting a double-double with 14 digs on defense and adding a pair of blocks.
 
Grace Shehadeh led the back row defense with 19 digs, while Lewis also reached double-digits with 11.
 
Grewing paced the Storm at the net with four blocks.
 
SE used a pair of runs early to take a 15-7 lead, but the Bulldogs rallied and closed the gap to 17-14.
 
A Lewis kill would set off another Storm run, this time taking six of the next seven points to mount a 23-15 lead before picking up the 25-18 set victory to lead 1-0.
 
SWOSU answered in the second set, taking the lead early, but using a 6-0 run to jump out to take a 24-14 lead.
 
The Storm would score four-straight looking to rally, but were unable to come all the way back, dropping the set 25-18.
 
The Bulldogs again jumped out early in the third set and would lead 23-16 before Southeastern mounted a furious rally, scoring seven of the next eight points to close to 24-23 before SWOSU piked up the final point in a 25-23 set win and ed the match 2-1.
 
In the fourth set, SWOSU scored the first nine points ad would lead the entire set, with Southeastern making a late push behind a pair of 5-1 runs to close the final gap to 25-19 in the final set.
