Storm Drop Midweek Slugfest at NSU

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Southeastern collected 12 hits, three of them homers and five going for extra bases, but were unable to rally over the final innings in an 11-10 loss at Northeastern State in a slugfest on Tuesday afternoon in Tahlequah, Okla.
 
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 6-4 overall on the season as they will now jump back into Great American Conference play March 12-13 for a three-game series at Northwestern Oklahoma State in Alva, Okla.
 
Matt Miles put together a 3-for-5 outing with a pair of solo homers and three runs scored, while Colton Buckner and Rylee Holmes each added two hits.
 
Richard Ware, Seth Morrow, Slayde Ortiz, Joseph Ramirez, and Dylan Herd each added one hit.
 
Miles was the only SE player with multiple RBI, finishing with two, while Ware, Morrow, Buckner, Reid Rice, Ramirez, Holmes, and Herd each drove in one.
 
Dylan Turner got the start and tossed 3.0 innings allowing four runs on seven hits with two strikeouts with a no decision.
 
Spencer Wallace would come on in relief and was saddled with the loss after allowing two runs on three hits in one-third of an inning.
 
Davis Jenks tossed two-third in relief of Wallace, allowing a run on two walks with a strikeout.
 
Coby Langford was tagged for three runs on two walks with no hits allowed in one-third of an inning before KC Bryan came on to toss 2.2 innings and allowed a run on a hit with four K's.
 
Kenneth Klier would throw the final inning and struck out one without allowing a hit.
 
Miles led off the game with a homer to stake SE to a 1-0 lead.
 
NSU would answer two a solo homer in the bottom of the first, but a Holmes triple would score Ramirez from first and Holmes would score a batter later on a Herd single to take a 3-1 lead.
 
SE stretched it to 4-1 with a Buckner sac fly in the third which scored Morrow.
 
However, the Riverhawks would put together five runs on an SE error and five hits in the bottom of the fourth, and follow it up with another five runs, this time on one hit and one error in the fifth to mount an 11-4 lead.
 
Southeastern found an answer immediately, with Ortiz leading off the sixth with a bunt single and Ramirez connecting on a two-run homer.
 
Ware would tack on a run later in the inning with an RBI single to score Holmes, and Morrow would drive in Miles a batter later when he reached on an error.
 
Rice would round out the five-run inning for the Storm with an RBI fielder's choice that scored Ware to close the gap to 11-9 midway through the sixth.
 
Both teams went scoreless in the seventh and eighth innings, and Mile looked to get an SE rally going in the ninth with a solo homer with two outs, but the Storm rally would run out of gas in an 11-10 loss.
