SE Drops Midweek Matchup vs UCO

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern collected four home runs, two by Colton Buckner, and the teams combined for 28 runs and 26 hits but the Savage Storm found itself on the wrong end of a 17-11 final score against Central Oklahoma on Tuesday afternoon at Mike Metheny Field.

The loss drops SE to 13-14 overall on the season as they head back into Great American Conference play April 16-17 when it travels to Arkadelphia, Ark., to face Ouachita Baptist in a three-game series.

Offensively the Storm collected 10 hits, led by three from Rylee Holmes, while Buckner, and Aaron Herrera added two apiece.

Seth Morrow, Richard Ware and Reid Rice each had one.

Buckner would homer twice over his first two at bats, while Morrow would connect on a grand slam and Rice would hit a towering home run to left.

Morrow finished the game with five RBI, while Buckner drove in four.  Rice and Herrera each added one RBI.

Southeastern would send 10 pitchers to the hill in the game, with KC Bryan getting the start and allowing a run on a hit with four strikeouts in 3.0 innings of work.

Dylan Turner added a scoreless inning of relief, scattering a pair of hits and striking out two.

Jordan Compton and Connor Priest would combine for the next 1.0 innings, allowing five runs on four hits between them before Spencer Wallace would take the loss after getting tagged for four runs on three hits without recording an out.

Kyler Hancock would then face two batters before Jacob Bigham came on and tossed 2.0 innings, allowing a run on three hits.

Logan Teske, Adrian Talavera, and Joseph Bishop would toss the final 2.0 innings, with Teske and Talavera combining to allow five runs on three hits while Bishop tossed the final inning and struck out one, facing just three batters.

UCO scored a run in the top of the first, but the Storm answered immediately as a Buckner homer in the bottom half of the first would put SE up 2-1, followed by an RBI double by Herrera for a 3-1 lead.

A Morrow sac fly in the bottom of the second would bring home Holmes and two batters later Buckner would connect on his second-consecutive two-run homer, extending the Storm lead to 6-1.

It would remain there until the top of the fifth inning when the Bronchos tied the game with five runs before taking the lead with five more in the top of the sixth.

They would add six more runs over the seventh and eighth innings to take a 17-6 lead.

An eighth inning grand slam by Morrow would cut into the deficit and Rice's leadoff homer in the ninth would fashion the 17-11 final score.
