Savage Storm Snap Skid with 3-1 Victory

DURANT, Okla. – D'Nari Mills, Lexi Davila, and Jessica Hardin each finished with double-digit kills as Southeastern snapped its 10-match losing skid with a 3-1 victory over Austin College on Saturday afternoon in Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium.

The win improves the Savage Storm to 2-12 overall on the season as the team preps a return to Great American Conference play on Sept. 20 with a 6 p.m. matchup back in Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium to close out the team's four-match homestand.

Mills paced the trio as well as all attackers in the match with 13 kills, while Davila came in in the second set and still tallied 11 kills. Hardin rounded out the trio with 10.

McKenzie Turkoly led the setting duties with 26 assists on the day while Ruthie Forson finished with 14.

Peyton Kriegel led all defenders with 19 digs on the match, while Mills added 14 and Amaya Constantino chipped in 10.

At the net, the Storm had one of its best blocking outings of the season, with Hardin leading the way with four blocks, while Michera Moffett added three, while Mills and Avynn La Rose each had two.

The first set was the tightest of the day, featuring five ties and four lead changes. The final tie came at 15-15 with SE then taking the next two points, eventually taking a fou8r-point lead before the Kangaroos would close the gap two one point, twice, the last time coming at 23-22.  Fortunately, SE would take the final; two points to secure the set 25-22 and a 1-0 lead.

In set two the Storm fell behind early and never properly recovered, trailing by as many as nine before closing the final tally to 25-17 to even the match at 1-1.

The third set was a flip of the second with Southeastern taking control early, using multiple runs to mount a lead as large as 21-11 before eventually wining the set 25-17 to take a 2-1 lead in the match.

SE scored the first three points in the fourth set and despite never trailing in the set, found itself in a tight matchup as the Storm was unable to push its lead beyond four points until a late surge gave them a 17-12 lead on a La Rose kill. AC would close the gap to three points twice after that but the Storm would power to a 25-19 win to clinch the 3-1 victory.
