DURANT, Okla. – Four players posted double-digit kills as Southeastern got back in the win column on Friday afternoon with a 3-1 victory over Ouachita Baptist in Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium.
Â
The win lifts the Savage Storm to 8-11 overall on the year and 4-5 in Great American Conference play heading into a non-conference matchup with Oklahoma Christian on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. back in Bloomer Sullivan Gym.
Â
"A great home win for us today," said head coach
Nicole Solum-Mitchell. "We started off a little slow but I'm so proud of the fight and determination we showed to fight back. Ouachita is well rounded offensively so we had to match that and surpass it. We have really focused on blocking and incorporating our middles and I think we executed that. We are continuing to build and getting better each week."
Â
D'Nari Mills led all attackers with 19 kills on the afternoon but was joined in double-figures by
Ruthie Forson who had 11 kills, while
Noelia Rocha and
Sandra Acheampong each had 10.
Â
Forson also added 44 assists to trigger the offense while adding a pair of service aces and two blocks.
Â
Amaya Constantino led the back row with 16 digs to match the game high in the stat, while
Faith Kruebbe and Mills each finished with nine.
Â
At the net, Acheampong posted a high of five blocks, while
Michera Moffett added three, with Forson, Rocha, and Mills each posting two.
Â
SE trailed early in the first set but would chip away and after 10 ties would pull ahead and hang on for a 25-23 win in the set and a 1-0 lead.
Â
The second set featured seven ties and four lead changes, but a 7-2 Tiger run would give OBU the edge en route to a 25-20 win to even the match at 1-1.
Â
SE would close strong in the third set, scoring three of the final four points to secure the 25-23 win in the third set and a 2-1 lead.
Â
The Storm would follow by scoring the first four points of the fourth set and never looked back, pulling away to a 25-16 win to clinch the 3-1 match victory.
