SE Faces Austin College in Midweek Showdown

DURANT, Okla. – The Southeastern Oklahoma State women's volleyball team breaks from GAC action to face Austin College in a non-conference road match on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. in the Hughey Gym.

STORM WATCH
Southeastern split last week's pair of matches after seeing a 3-1 win over Southern Nazarene on Tuesday before falling on the road at Southwestern Oklahoma State 3-1 Wednesday. Through the halfway point in the season, SE is 5-9 overall and holds a 2-3 conference mark, which has them in a four-way tie for the fourth-best record in the league. 
 
Ruthie Forson put in another impressive week for the Storm attack against SWOSU, recording 32 assists, ten kills and 15 digs. The Denton, Texas native has now seen three straight triple-double contests and is tied for the most across all Division II with five this season. From her setter position, Forson also has four consecutive matches with double-figure kills and has seven on the year while averaging 2.30 kills per set.
 
Patience Lewis was the standout defender from last week across the conference, as she earned GAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. The Pearland, Texas native led the league with 7.63 digs per set over eight frames, totaling 61 digs. Lewis leads the team with 283 digs and ranks third in the GAC with 5.05 digs per frame.
 
Michera Moffett and Maci Morrison have provided the first line of defense at the net with 37.0 and 26.0 total blocks, respectively. Both Moffett and Morrison are tied for a team-high seven solo denials, while Moffett is fourth on the team in kills with 71.
 
Southeastern takes the court against Austin College for the third all-time meeting on Wednesday and leads the series 2-0. Last year, the Storm got the better of the Kangaroos at home 3-1, led by 23 kills by D'Nari Mills and another 15 from Forson.
 
PREVIEWING AUSTIN COLLEGE
Austin College has won its last seven matches, including three-straight sweeps, to sit 12-6 overall and 5-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Kangaroos lead the Blue Division of the SCAC and are one of two teams that remain undefeated in league action.

AC has three players with 100 or more kills on the year, led by TJ Folse, who paces the side with 170 kills on a .225 attack percentage and is averaging 2.58 kills per set. Folse is joined by Rachel Sadler and Victoria Larson with 149 and 100 kills, respectively. At the net, Rita Araya leads the 'Roos with 69.0 total blocks, while Laynie Kovacs has notched a team-high 343 digs.
