KANSAS CITY, Mo. – With just a few weeks till the start of the spring season for the Southeastern Oklahoma State men's tennis program, the Savage Storm was voted fourth in the South Division of the Mid-American Intercollege Athletics Association/Great American Conference Preseason Poll.
The blue and gold earned 19 total points, while first-place Harding received 43 votes and seven first-place nods. Ouachita Baptist checked in at second in the South Division poll with 34 points and one first-place vote, and Southern Arkansas would collect the final three first-place votes in third with 33 points. Newcomers Arkansas-Fort Smith checked in at fifth with the remaining 11 points.
In the North Division, Washburn carried the most votes with 55 points and 10 of the 11 first-place tallies. Nebraska Kearney, who was picked second, received the final first-place nod.
Last season, Southeastern finished third in the South Division with a 2-2 conference mark and a 19-9 overall record. The Storm's two league wins came in a 5-2 win over Newman and a 4-3 victory versus Southern Arkansas. SE would get a first-round win over Northwest Missouri State at the MIAA/GAC Tournament but would later fall to Harding in the following round.
The SE lineup will feature many familiar faces from last year and also some new ones with five newcomers. Two of the Storm's new additions joined in the spring, with the additions of a freshman from Siena, Italy,
Benjamin Fracassi, and freshman
German Vallejo, who joined from Cali, Colombia.
Southeastern begins its spring season with a home match on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. against Collin County Community College at the Southeastern Tennis Complex. The Storm will play 12 home matches throughout the spring semester, including a league match versus Harding on Apr. 25.
